Welcome to the Clinical Research Center for Diabetes
Makoto Funaki, M.D., Ph.D.
Director/Professor of the CRCD
The prevalence of diabetes is rapidly increasing both in Japan and all over the world, which causes a tremendous burden on the health care system. Tokushima has been known for its highest mortality rate by diabetes in Japan for a long time. To overcome diabetes-related issues in Tokushima, Tokushima University Hospital established the CRCD in October 2007 sponsored by the Tokushima prefecture. CRCD participates in a collaborative project among the academia, the industry and the local government, as well, aiming to apply our research outcome to the clinical fields and start-up new industry locally. To this end, we are conducting a population-based study to reveal the cause and the consequence of diabetes in our area. We are also conducting basic research and translational research, combined with the outcome of our population-based study, to develop a state-of-the-art technology to overcome diabetes.
By taking advantage of our broad network nationally and internationally, we will accomplish our mission. I invite you to explore our web site and learn more about us.
